Irish banned from hostel

IrishA Whitsundays backpacker resort has placed a blanket ban on Irish guests because of drunken behaviour.

Manager of Main Street Backpackers in Proserpine, Thomas Dunne, Irish himself, said many of the incidents involving Irish backpackers have caused deliberate damage to his property. This year he has accepted only eight Irish guests and six of these have been thrown out. The last two were charged with willful damage to the hostel and ordered to pay $410 to the owner of the hostel. "What can I say, we can’t tar everyone with the same brush, but yes we have had enough of the Irish backpackers who stay at our accommodation," Mr Dunne said.
